Overview
A 10 day's primate expedition is ideal if you want to visit Uganda’s most popular
gems. During this trip, you are bound to visit one of the most beautiful lakes in
Uganda, Lake Bunyonyi. It is located southwestern Uganda within Kigezi highlands
in the districts of Rubanda and Kabale. Neighboring the famous wild giants
(mountain Gorillas) in Bwindi and the Virunga ranges in Kisoro. It is the second
deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania and third in the world,
believed to have safe waters for swimming, bilharzia and crocodile free zone.
But one must really be a good swimmer as the waters are so deep. 29 islands dot this
lava dammed lake, each with a different story behind it. Hundreds of birds like the
herons, egrets call it home and hence the name, Bunyonyi meaning very many little
birds. On this 10 day's primate expedition, also visit Uganda’s primates ranging from
big apes, Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzee to lesser primates among monkeys
predominated by the Golden monkey to a black and white colobus monkey and
baboons.
A 10 day's primate expedition is sure to hold your hand into the most satisfying and
breathtaking safari. Visiting the largest National Park in Uganda, Murchison falls
and Queen Elizabeth National Park, the medley of wonders is very rewarding,
boasting a diverse ecosystem of wildlife, nature, drainage systems, birds,
communities among others. Amabere ga Nyinamwiru and the Tooro palace are ready
to feed you with the rich Bunyoro-Kitara history. This trip is one not to miss!
Highlights
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park with stop for Rhino
tracking.
Meet with our team after your early morning breakfast at your accommodation
reception abd immediately, set off before 7:00am through the Luwero-Nakansogola
triangle to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. It still keeps the monopoly of white rhinos in
Uganda, the haven for conservation and breeding for this endangered species. Take
part in rhino tracking after being assigned a family and a guide. Continue Norhwards
with a lunch stop over at Kabalega Dinners, proceed to Uganda’s largest park
crossing the Nile at Karuma falls. Go for an evening gamedrive if it's early.
Check in on arrival at the hotel.
Day 2: Game drive, boat cruise and visit top of falls.
After breakfast, set off for an early morning game drive with our guide to the
Southwest of the park. You spot different park wildlife like, elephants, lions, buffalos,
leopards, giraffes, warthogs, infinite antelopes like water bucks, kobs, monkeys,
baboons, scenery with a chance to spot a leopard along the track. After the drive visit
the Top of the falls, where the beautiful rainbow resides. Enjoy your packed lunch
and after, hop onto the 2:00pm boat cruise to the bottom of falls that is 3hours long
coupled with busking crocodiles, schools of Hippos, elephants, waterbucks, extended
birdlife and cliff-nested bee eaters, return to the lodge and have a relaxed evening.
Day 3: Transfer to Fort Portal, visit to King’s palace.
You are joined by our driver guide after your early morning breakfast crossing the
Nile at Paraa through Hoima district to the not only cleanest town in Uganda but city
to Tooro kingdom based along the shadows of Rwenzori ranges, on arrival visit the
King’s palace and proceed to our hotel for overnight.
Day 4: Mabeere ga Nyinamwiru and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National
Park.
After your morning breakfast visit the Amabeere ga’ Nyinamwiru, the beautiful
stalactites and stalagmites and the Nyakasura waterfalls. Then steer to Uganda’s
most popular park Queen Elizabeth National Park via Kasese through the beautiful
western arm of the great rift valley with extra features like crater lakes scenic views.
Retire at the hotel for overnight.
Day 5: Morning game drive and boat cruise.
Have early morning breakfast and set out for a game drive for great game sightings
and scenic crater lakes and grassy hills. Expect to see lots of elephants, Uganda
kobs, buffalos, waterbucks, and bushbucks. After the game drive transfer to your
lodge for lunch and relax.
Later after lunch set out for a boat ride along the Kanziga Channel extending from
Lake Edward to Lake George at 2:00pm offering you a close range to wildlife
magnet hosting lots of animals including Hippos, busking crocodiles, buffalos, and
monitor lizards are a common sight. Elephants, waterbucks, bushbucks, kobs, and
other game come to the shores to drink, cool off, and eat fresh grass. The cool breeze
on your skin soothes you from the hot afternoon. Bird lovers are in for a treat!
Cormorants, African fish eagle, pied and malachite kingfishers, pink-backed
pelicans, cattle egrets and lots of colorful birds throng the shores of the channel.
The ride last for about 2-3hours.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Game drive to Ishasha sector for climbing lions and Transfer to
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Have early breakfast and sign out of the lodge with your packed lunch, go for an early
game drive and expect to see climbing lions, mongoose, leopards, hyenas, elephants,
buffalos along the extended Ishasha trail. Be on the on look out for the tree-climbing
lions that are common to this section of the park plus other big game. After a stop at
the scenic Kikorongo equator monument and a photographic session, proceed out of
the park and head for Bwindi National Park, home of the Mountain Gorillas, have
lunch enroute. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Gorilla trekking and Nature safari.
In an early misty morning, have your breakfast and set out to the Park head offices
for a pregnant briefing about the do’s and don’ts of Mountain Gorilla’s that lasts
up to 8:30am (EAT), where we are led by a team from UWA led by field ranger guide
and armed park ranger to ensure our life’s safety into the Bwindi that will last for 2-
8hours, and on encountering the giants for a one hour period with them in a 7meter
distance is permitted as you enjoy their feeding playing and breath from the Gorillas,
return to the Lodge for Lunch. After lunch we couple our adventure with a
community safari to the Batwa trail for the exclusive Batwa experience. Enjoy a
traditional entertainment session from them.
Return to the lodge for an overnight
Day 8: Transfer to lake Bunyonyi and strike a community safari.
Visit the Batwa community after a boat cruise and a hike. Your evening is about to be
seasoned with their native entertainment coupled with life style and folklore.
Return to the lodge for an overnight.
Day 9: Visit different islands and canoeing.
Wake up with a cup of African tea/coffee and a delicious breakfast in an early
morning dominated by fog and mist. Go for island hopping on the believed Bilharzia
free lake led by the famous punishment island ehere girls who hot pregnant out of
wedlock were punished. Each island has its unique features and activities ranging
from cultural encounters, hiking and bicycle riding, return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch you can taste the Swiss waters declared clean and safe for swimming.
Overnight at the Lodge.
Day 10: Transfer to Kampala
Check out of your lodge after your early morning breakfast out of the mist through
green banana plantations coupled with cattle farm ranches with lunch enroute at
Igongo cultural center. Proceed through the popular Ankole Masaka dry corridor for
equator experience, take enough photos and steer arriving Kampala in the evening.
